최근 중국에서 전 국민을 대상으로 기후변화에 대한 인식을 조사한 결과가 발표됐다. 이번 조사는 중국 기후변화커뮤니케이션센터와 중국 렌민(Renmin)대학교의 통계학연구소가 공동으로 수행한 것으로 알려졌다. 중국에서 기후변화를 주제로 이루어진 전 국민 인식조사는 이번이 처음이다.
발표된 내용에 따르면 중국 국민의 93.4%는 기후변화가 초래할 위험한 결과에 대해 인지하고 있다고 대답했다. 기후변화가 심각하다고 답한 응답자는 77.7%였다. 대다수의 중국 국민들은 기후가 변화하는 과정에 있으며, 이는 인간 활동에 기인한 것으로 믿고 있는 것으로 나타났다.
응답자의 61%는 기후변화를 경험한 적이 있다고 답했으며, 기후변화 대응에 가장 책임 있게 나서야할 주체로는 88.9%가 정부와 함께 공공기관, 언론, 기업 그리고 NGO를 꼽았다. 그러나 정부나 언론이 제공하는 정보보다는 학회 등 연구기관들에 대한 정보에 신뢰도가 더 높은 것으로 나타났다. 기후변화와 관련된 정보를 얻는 매체로는 TV 93.8%, 휴대전화 66.1%, 인터넷 65%인 것으로 조사되었다.
이 조사는 올해 약 2개월에 걸쳐 조사되었으며, 총 4,169명의 응답자가 참여했다. 응답자 연령은 18세에서 70대까지 골고루 분포되어 있으며, 중국 대륙 전역에 걸쳐 고른 표본 추출로 대표성을 확보했다. 이번 조사 결과는 올 11월 말 카타르 도하에서 열리는 제18차 유엔기후변화협약당사국회의(COP18)에서 발표될 예정이다(기후변화행동연구소 이승민 객원연구원).
